What does it mean to be a Modern Girl in this world?? I have no idea but I’m on a quest to figure it out.
Growing up my Modern Girl Bible was Sex and the City. According to that show to be a Modern Girl I should have a…
- my own apartment in the Upper West Side,
- a job that allows me to afford rent AND Jimmy Choo shoes,
- and my biggest struggle is deciding which investment banker I should go on a date with on Saturday night.
If that’s what being a Modern Girl is then I have failed.
To start I live 3,000 miles away from NYC in Los Angeles. I am obsessed with my fur babies-a cat and dog. I wear Target shoes not Jimmy Choos and my husband is far from being an investment banker.
Now I’m stuck trying to figure out what it means to be a Modern Girl today because the conventional Sex and the City model doesn’t work.
Here’s what I think I know…
- I’ve drank my weight in green juice and Rosé
- Yoga cures all
- Netflix is life and so is Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO
- Target runs are between $50-$500
- Student loans are the death of my generation
- We scroll down for Instagram and swipe right for dating
- No one listens to the radio but we all listen to podcasts
- Social media thanks to us is here to stay
- It will take 2 hours, 200 pics, and $2000 for the perfect Coachella Instagram Post that will last 2 seconds
- The best part of waking up isn’t Folgers in my cup but rather the 10 minutes it takes to boil water and brew my pour over coffee from organic beans that taste so much better
- Restaurants have to be low lit with Edison light bulbs, the food is farm to table, and the drinks come with paper straws
With all that said (yes, I know that was over 140 characters) I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m hoping with your help we can figure it out together. I want to talk about the fun, crazy, and hard shit we are all struggling with.
